Homage to Walter Lange in Stainless Steel

Watch brand extraordinaire A. Lange & Söhne showed off a 1 of 1 stainless steel Homage to Walter Lange at this year’s SIHH.  The watch will be auctioned off in Geneva by Phillips in May.

The watch features a stoppable sweep seconds hand and a black enamel dial in a stainless steel case.  The center seconds is a jumping hand and a  wonderful counterpoint to the sweeping sub-seconds hand.   The caliber called  L1924, an homage to Lange’s birth year.  Other references will be produced in precious metals; yellow, white, and  pink gold.

Why did I write about this?

Three things:

1. Black enamel dial, what what!!!
2. My son is named Walter.  All things Walter-related are good.
3. That ridiculous dead-beat seconds hand.  The most pointless complication man has yet conceived.
