Fake Alligator 2020 Holiday Gift Guide

    December 11, 2020 /

Every year we write up a bunch of random cheap and expensive things for you to gift your friends and family and enemies. I know this list is coming a bit late, mid-December, but nothing matters this year. I thought about just posting the top ten most expensive 1990s Porsches on DuPont Registry, but then I thought better of that. Everyone knows there are only really Porsche 2-3 models from any give decade worth buying. So let’s dig in. Tiffany & Co’s Sterling Silver Flowerpot. It’s now become a yearly tradition to include something from Tiffany’s Everyday Objects collection. This year is no different featuring a lovely flower pot. For…

    Moser x Vantablack

    September 18, 2018 /

    H. Moser & Cie  have announced a watch with the darkest dial humanly possible.  It’s coated with this “paint” called Vantablack.  Manufactured here.  It’s chemical substance made of vertically aligned carbon nanotube arrays and is the darkest artificial substance known, absorbing up to 99.965% of radiation in the visible spectrum. (Wiki entry) It’s accurate to 1000 years.  And costs $35,000. You can find myriad pictures and some video reviews on Instagram.  It’s a pretty cool piece that I’d personally love to wear.   Some Details:  Reference 1801-1200, steel model, Vantablack® dial, black leather strap, limited edition of 50 pieces Reference 1801-0400, 5N red gold model, midnight-blue fumé dial, brown alligator leather strap,…

    Top Ten things of 2017

    December 20, 2017 /

We here at Fake Alligator put together a list of the top 10 things in 2017.  Trying to steer clear of watches and cars (for the most part) we wanted to showcase the biggest and most exciting things of the year.  So without further ado: 10: Damien Hirst’s Venice show: Treasures From the Wreck of the Unbelievable 189 pieces in bronze, marble, malachite, rock crystal, silver and gold.   The work took 10 years to produce at a cost of over $65million USD, that’s a few Paul Newman Daytonas.  Love him or hate him, this show was the only thing I remember from Venice this year. 9: That fight scene in…

Da Vinci painting or Paul Newman Daytonas?

    November 20, 2017 /

Da Vinci? (please say that like Tom Hanks in the trailer 2006 film  The Da Vinci Code) The last privately owned Leonardo Da Vinci (of Ninja Turtles fame) painting, Salvator Mundi was auctions off last week at Christie’s in New York. it went for….. $450,312,500 making it the most expensive painting ever sold.  Paintings by the old master are rare (less than 20) and finished paintings are ever rarer. While we all hoped the piece would end up in a museums collection, the outrageous price dictates that might not have happened.  As of the writing the buyer is still unknown. IS IT REAL? Who knows.  Seriously, this work has been beaten…
